Spirometry

What is it?
Spirometry is a test often used to help diagnose and monitor certain lung diseases such as COPD, Asthma and Emphysema. It is completed by measuring how much air you can breathe out in one forced breath. It is carried out using a device called a Spirometer.

Why I might need it?
Your Primary care provider would most likely want spirometry done to assess your current Lung Condition, to help diagnose a lung condition or to determine your lung capacity and or how well you are responding to your medications.

What happens during Spirometry?
You will be expected to place your lips tightly around the Spirette (individual use) and be asked to take in as big and deep a breath as possible and then blow out as hard and fast as you can. This maximal effort is very important, and testing will be repeated at least three times to get the best results. A max amount of 8 attempts per pre-test and post-test.
